Our Missions
Our Mission
“Mission is a tireless going out to all men and women, in order to invite them to encounter God and enter into communion with him. As Christ’s disciples have always had a heartfelt concern for all persons, whatever their social or even moral status as well as the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame. The mission for all requires the commitment of all.” (Pope Francis, 2024 World Mission Sunday Message)
Through the diocesan missions we cultivate a greater understanding of the Church’s missionary identity that comes from our baptism. we promote a missionary culture at every level of the diocese and share in the dream of the Holy Father, Pope Francis, for a missionary church, a church that goes forth (Iglesia en salida).

Costa Rica Mission Service
The Costa Rica Mission Trip provided Catholic high school students with a transformative week of service and spiritual growth. From June 5 to June 12, 2024, students traveled to the Community of Our Lady of Lourdes in Pejibaye and Casa Nazareth in San Isidro, Diocese of San Isidro, Costa Rica. During their stay, they worked alongside parishioners on various construction projects, such as building sidewalks, fences, painting classrooms, and more.
This mission trip was more than just physical labor. It offered students the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the Church’s mission and solidarity with those in need. Through hands-on work, faith formation sessions, site visits, and the celebration of the sacraments, students grew spiritually and built meaningful relationships with their peers and the local community.
Guided by our chaplains, participants experienced a renewed sense of stewardship and gratitude. They returned home with a deeper appreciation for the many blessings in their lives and a passion for the Church’s call to be a missionary community, a Church that “goes forth” (Iglesia en salida). Through this journey, students came to understand what it means to be “our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers” and carried this spirit of service into their everyday lives.

Costa Rica 2024 Recap
“The Pastoral Services Office and the campus ministers of the schools wanted to provide a missionary experience—service, work, social action, hands on work with people in Central America, so that our students, our kids in the diocese, would learn about the Church, be part of the Church, and see themselves as a Church—as one body, one faith, one baptism, one Lord Jesus Christ.”
Juan Rendon, Director of the Diocese of Dallas’ Catholic Social Ministries Office

the Pontifical Mission Societies
Throughout the year, the Pontifical Mission Societies support the proclamation of the Gospel, the building of the Church, and the work and witness of mission priests, religious Sisters and Brothers, and lay pastoral leaders. These missionaries provide food, education, and medical care to the most vulnerable communities in the Pope’s missions. Through their work, they reveal the compassionate heart of Jesus. Make a Difference
Through the medical, catechetical and education missions our diocese provides basic medical care to people with difficult and limited access to see a doctor; the catechetical mission is a joint effort to provide ongoing catechetical training and leadership; and the education mission is a collaborative effort to help young adults get an education to empower their local communities.
It is a service mission trip where Catholic High school students spend a week working on various construction projects; they work with parishioners building sidewalks, fences, painting, classrooms, and building human relationships. The students have an opportunity to delve deeper in their understanding of mission and solidarity, grow spiritually through the corporal work, opportunities for faith formation, peer relationships, and celebration of the sacraments with the local people.
The second collection on the first week of January helps to support these missions.
The Diocese of El Paso is our sister diocese. Our goal is to strengthen our relationship and collaboration to foster a culture of life. We work in solidarity to build up vibrant and transformative Catholic faith communities among the poor.
