General Summary of Position:

The Faith Formation Coordinator oversees all catechetical programming for children in Grades 1-12, including sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation.  Manages instruction for unbaptized children in Grades 1-12 receiving the sacraments of initiation outside the typical age through OCIC.

This full-time position is responsible for other parochial activities: Youth Ministry, retreats, VBS, and post-Confirmation opportunities.  Provides strategic leadership, curriculum planning, volunteer formation, and bilingual communication with families to foster a vibrant formation experience. Proficiency in both English and Spanish is preferred but not required to serve the parish community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervises the instruction of students on the sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation.
  • Manages instruction for unbaptized children in Grades 1-12 receiving the sacraments of initiation outside the typical age through OCIC.
  • Develops, reviews, and maintains an annual formation calendar, curriculum plans, communication sequences, and process flow chart.
  • Recruits, trains, and schedules catechists and volunteers, managing Safe Environment compliance.
  • Leads and oversees sacramental preparation, including rehearsals, Mass planning, coordination of clergy, ushers, sacristan, and family communication for First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation.
  • Communicate with parents regarding expectations, schedules, and sacramental milestones.  Organize parents’ meetings twice a year (August & January).
  • Orders and manages all faith formation books and supporting materials based on student registrations with the approval of the Pastor and the Office Manager.
  • Share faith formation information across the website, bulletin, and social media, ensuring event details are up to date.
  • Receive and enter students’ tuition in Camino.
  • Create new school year classes in Camino.
  • Create and maintain students’ rosters in Camino.
  • Submit Facilities Request Forms to the Office Manager to schedule classrooms, reconciliations, sacramental masses, youth activities, and retreats.
  • Coordinate with the Office Manager to generate all required certificates and documentation in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates the Youth Ministry.
  • Plans and facilitates retreats, VBS, and post-Confirmation opportunities.
    Represents the parish at diocesan events and ensures alignment with diocesan policy.
  • Answers phone calls and the front door.

Required Skills & Competencies:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Ability to learn Camino software used for record keeping.
  • Ability to determine a budget for the program based on the cost of materials and activities planned.
  • Strong leadership, catechetical knowledge, and a pastoral presence.
    Excellent communication and planning skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • A creative and engaging approach to children and youth development.
  • Knowledge of basic office systems: computer, printers, telephone.
  • Proficiency in Spanish (written and spoken) is preferred but not required.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in theology, Religious Education, or a related field required.
  • 3–5 years of experience in parish faith formation leadership.

Special Requirements:

  • Practicing Catholic required, with deep knowledge of Catholic doctrine.
  • Available for evenings, weekends, and retreat weekends as needed.

Reporting Structure:

This position reports to the Office Manager and the Pastor. The coordinator supervises youth leaders, catechists, and volunteers.
