General Summary of the Position
Ministry Development supports the mission of the Office of Youth, Young Adult, and Campus Ministries to form missionary disciples for Jesus Christ through a collaborative approach that is uniquely tailored to individual ministry leaders and their parish or school communities. The intention is to elevate ministry efforts in the community through mentorship and coaching in the areas of spiritual, human, intellectual, operational, pastoral, and methodological formation. With the support of pastors and supervisors, Ministry Development aims to understand communities, their charisms, and their culture- utilizing a “boots on the ground” mentality- in order to discern the Gospel response to the current ministry realities, which are reflected in strategically crafted goals.
The Associate Director, Ministry Development assists the Director, in collaboration with the other department staff, in ideating, fostering, and ultimately executing the continuing mission of strategic ministry development throughout the diocese. As the lead for the strategists on the OYYACM team, this teammate serves as the team leader in the area of providing consultative work with parish and campus teams in creating entity-specific plans for comprehensive, sustainable, and culturally responsive ministry.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Position
– Empower local parishes to minister to youth, families, and/or young adults by engaging and mobilizing parish members in the development process, reflecting the belief that people will be invested in what they help to create.
– Provide direction, consultation, training, and formation to the Ministry Development team to support strategic development of parish and campus ministry.
– On-site collaborative work with parish and community leaders through the Ministry Development Initiatives.
– Assist in training and formation, relevant to the current National/Diocesan standards, with a special emphasis on new ministry leaders as the lead implementer of the ASCEND: Orientation and Training of New Ministry Leaders
– Provide services to parishes (campus ministry and schools) including resources, consultation, visitation and evaluation of parish youth ministry.
– Serve as a collaborative visioning voice, alongside the Director, in key strategic and research initiatives and the growth of innovative ministry opportunities
– Collaborate with multiple offices to ensure an intergenerational approach to parish ministry development.
– Collaborate with the Associate Director, Outreach and Diversity, to glean on the best practices, with multicultural outreach and support.
– Collaborate with the Associate Director, Content Development on the formational offerings.
– Support the direct ministry initiatives of the office. (Dallas Catholic Youth Conference, The 635, Pastoral Juvenil, Dallas Catholic Middle School Conference)
– Support the current programs as needed.
– Other duties as assigned.
Additional Ministerial Responsibilities:
– Be an advocate and link for youth, young adult, and campus ministries to the Pastoral Center ministries as well as parishes, deaneries and the wider community.
– Ideating, fostering, and ultimately executing the continuing mission of strategic ministry development throughout the diocese.
Position Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
– Disciple of Jesus Christ who regularly seeks to enhance his or her relationship with God through the tradition of the Roman Catholic Church
– Understanding of ministry and theology
– Ability to work as a team player in a highly collaborative environment
– Strong interpersonal and pastoral skills
– Extensive experience in digital and social media
– Excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills
– Ability to work without direct supervision
– Open to continued professional growth and development
– Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in all matters
– Familiarity and working knowledge of Church documents
– Positive, practical attitude with balanced initiative
Education and Experience:
– BA/BS degree in related field, Master’s preferred
– Competencies in the areas of Theology, Youth, Young Adult, and Campus ministry formation, community organization, strategic development, design thinking, intercultural ministry
– Minimum of 7 years of ministry experience working with youth, young adults, or campus ministry constituents
