Leadership Transition in the Catholic Schools Office
Thursday, June 5, 2025
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I write to inform you that Dr. Rebecca Hammel, Superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Dallas, has submitted her resignation, which I have accepted with gratitude for her service and with understanding of her decision.
During her tenure, Dr. Hammel brought faithful leadership, deep commitment to our Catholic mission, and tireless dedication to the students, educators, and families we serve. Her efforts in advancing academic excellence, strengthening Catholic identity, and guiding our schools through challenging times have left a meaningful mark on our diocesan community. Please join me in praying for her as she begins a new chapter.
Transitions such as these are never easy, but they offer us a moment to reaffirm our shared mission: to form young minds and hearts in Christ. I want to assure you that we are moving quickly and prudently to ensure strong leadership for our Catholic schools in the months ahead.
I will share more about the steps we are taking to appoint our next Superintendent of Catholic Schools. In the meantime, I ask for your prayers and support during this time of transition.
May the Holy Spirit continue to guide all who serve in our schools, and may Our Lady, Seat of Wisdom, intercede for our students and educators.
Faithfully yours in Christ,
Bishop Edward J. Burns
