St. Monica Fine Arts will host what is likely one of the largest and most collaborative concert presentations in the history of the program. On Friday, May 17 at 7:30 pm, St Monica will present world-renowned English composer Sir Karl Jenkins’ monumental Stabat Mater. This work, consisting of twelve movements and lasting just over one hour, will feature large orchestra (including St. Monica’s grand Nichols & Simpson pipe organ), critically-acclaimed mezzo-soprano soloist Avanti Dey, and a massed chorus comprised of nearly 100 singers from all over the DFW Metroplex, representing more than a dozen different churches, community choruses, universities, and more! The Stabat Mater is a 13th-century Christian hymn to the Virgin Mary that portrays her suffering as a mother during the crucifixion of her son Jesus Christ. The concert is FREE and open to all, suitable for all ages, and will be followed by a reception, during which there will be an exhibition of Marian artwork by students of St. Monica Catholic School.
