Building Maintenance Assistant

This is maintenance skilled work in the Church – Rectory and custodial care of a group of St. Thomas buildings, including furniture, fixtures, and equipment.

Duties also include assisting the supervisor as instructed, completing maintenance work, care of buildings, cleaning, repairs, and grounds.

His/her job description entails assisting and ensuring a safe working environment throughout the facility for all employees, and assisting in completing work orders and requests, providing suggestions for increased service and continuous improvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Position

Assist in setting up various areas of the Church, Rectory and school for meetings, programs, presentations, etc. This may require setting up and taking down tables & chairs and providing necessary equipment.
General maintenance of grounds/facilities as instructed by building supervisor.
Check all lights in all areas and buildings.
Repairs and maintenance as directed by Building Supervisor
·         Performing preventative maintenance.

·         Conducting routine inspections of premises and equipment.

·         Clean tables or areas as instructed.

·         Clean outdoor cafeteria after lunch on school days – sweep, pick up trash, pick up tables & chairs, remove trash as required.

·         Handling basic repairs and maintenance.

·         Overseeing contractors when professional repairs are necessary.

·         Diagnosing mechanical issues and correcting them.

·         Repairing machines, equipment, or structures as necessary.

Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

·         Related degree from a technical college or High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Experience at least 2 years.
Carpentry (painting, drywall, masonry etc.) Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, other.
·         Proven maintenance experience.

·         Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and department officials

·         Skilled in the use of hand and power tools.

·         Experience performing routine maintenance.

·         Strong organizational and follow up skills.

·         Eye for detail.

·         Professional presentation and attitude.

·         Ability to maintain focus while working.

·         Strong time management skills.

Education and Experience:

Physical Requirements Specific to the Job:

·         Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.

·          Reach with hands and arms.

·          Frequently required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and smell.

·         The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

·         Work is performed indoors and outdoors.
