General Summary of the Position
The Associate Director, under the guidance of the Director of Worship and in close collaboration with other Associate Directors of Worship, is the chief assistant regarding planning, implementing, and assessing liturgical and pastoral formation for the Office of Worship. The Associate Director will also recognize and surface formators working in parish leadership positions, providing them with skills and guidelines necessary for successful diversification of formation opportunities for Catholics in the Diocese of Dallas. This individual will be called upon to assist in executing episcopal and conference liturgical celebrations as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Position
– Under the guidance of the Director, the Associate Director prepares, provides, and evaluates liturgical ministry formation sessions for extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, Communion ministers to the sick and homebound, readers of Scripture and other liturgical ministries in light of the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy and the General Instruction of the Roman Missal, third typical edition.
– Develops training that enables parish liturgical leaders to implement liturgical ministry formation programs that integrate sound liturgical praxis founded on the Church’s liturgical laws and diocesan norms and policies.
– Serves as a resource and agent for parishes in selecting and purchasing guidebooks and ritual texts for liturgical ministers.
– Accompanies and encourages parish liturgical ministers to cultivate prayerfulness, reverence, and common sense.
– Provides parishes with opportunities for spiritual enrichment for volunteer liturgical ministers and lay ecclesial ministers.
– Collaborates with other Associate Directors of Worship to implement formation for volunteer catechists, parish catechetical leaders, and parish liturgical leaders on the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.
– Assists in implementing major diocesan and conference liturgies.
– Other duties as needed by the Office of Worship
Position Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
– Practicing Catholic in good standing with deep knowledge and appreciation of the liturgy of the Church.
– Excellent communication skills with the flexibility to adapt to various groups.
– Excellent written and oral communication in English.
– Excellent written and oral communication in Spanish preferred.
– Planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
– Proficient in Microsoft Suite: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
– Knowledgeable in online teaching and communication platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.
– Skills in Adobe suite programs.
Education and Experience:
– Master’s degree in theology, liturgy or pastoral ministry is preferred.
– Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the context of liturgical ministry formation at the parish or diocesan levels.
Special Requirements:
– Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
– Able and willing to travel throughout the Diocese as needed.
– Ability to form healthy and dynamic relationships with co-workers and with parish ministry leaders.
