Position/Title: Senior Development Officer (SDO)

Catholic Campus Ministry at SMU (CCM), a ministry of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Dallas, seeks an experienced, dynamic, and forward-thinking team member for the staff position of Senior Development Officer (SDO). This person will join a dedicated and close-knit team committed to guiding SMU students in their personal relationship with Jesus Christ through His Church.

With the tactical assistance of an External Relations Associate, the SDO is responsible for a range of activities specifically related to fundraising, donor engagement, and external relations (including the ministry’s social media and communications). This position requires a high level of strategic thinking, initiative, and coordination & collaboration with the entire CCM team, especially with the External Relations Associate, who will assist the SDO in the execution of his or her responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Position

·         Plan and execute, in collaboration with CCM leadership, the development and execution of the organization’s Strategic Action Plan for fundraising to meet fiscal year financial requirements and long-term capital goals of the ministry. This includes creating a defined fundraising plan with specific targets, constituent analysis, and associated timeline of measurable goals.

·         Develop/nurture existing and prospective donor relationships and the implementation of donor giving plans, including the direct solicitation of gifts and submission of grant proposals to organizations.

·         Maintain a portfolio of donors and lead constituent stewardship by cultivating relationships with current ministry supporters.

·         Oversee the research, organization, and management of information on constituents and donors using the Ministry’s CRM in accordance with organization best practices on relationship management, including, but not limited to, creating donor profiles for the Chaplain/Director.

·         Develop and implement, with the assistance of the External Relations Associate, a communications strategy that includes all external outreach, social media, and content creation.

·         Manage all events and projects related to fundraising and donor engagement (i.e., CCM annual celebration fundraiser, SMU Family Weekend, Sunday Suppers, etc.).

·         Responsible for drafting correspondence, acknowledgment letters, and proposals to major prospects/donors on behalf of the Ministry leadership.

·         Oversee and manage the External Relations Associate to help carry out tactical development needs and to ensure a consistent communications strategy (branding, voice, & content across all platforms, including social media) for internal and external audiences and outreach.

·         Oversee, with collaboration of Director/Chaplain, Advisory Board governance, meetings, and communication.

·         Prepare advancement reports for the Director/Chaplain and Advisory Board.

·         Manage multiple department budgets.

·         Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

* Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
* Strong time management, organizational, and planning skills.
* Ability to oversee and direct the External Relations Associate.
* Ability to work as a team player with Chaplain/Director, ministry staff, students, volunteers, and diocesan personnel.
* Flexibility, proactivity, and good judgment.
* Ability to juggle multiple projects.

Education and Experience:

* Bachelor’s degree required.
* Fundraising and advancement experience required.
* Knowledge of Catholic and/or campus ministry organization fundraising preferred.
* Communications and Marketing experience preferred.
* Event planning experience is a plus.

Special Requirements:

* Practicing Roman Catholic in good standing who supports and upholds the mission of the Gospel and the Catholic Church by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church in keeping with the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
* Occasional work in the evening and weekends relating to events, board meetings, donor engagement, etc., will be required but typically scheduled well in advance.
