Position/Title: External Relations Associate

Reports to: Senior Development Officer (SDO)

Catholic Campus Ministry at SMU, a ministry of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Dallas, seeks a collaborative, detail-oriented team member for the entry-level staff position of External Relations Associate. This person will join a dedicated and thoughtful team shepherding SMU students in their relationship with Jesus Christ through His Church.

The External Relations Associate will work under the supervision of the Senior Development Officer in a range of fundraising, board engagement, communications (including social media), and CRM management activities. This position requires a high attention to detail with strong oral & written communication skills, event planning skills, and a spirit of coordination & collaboration with the entire ministry team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Position

* Work closely with the Senior Development Officer (SDO) in the execution of the organization’s Strategic Action Plan.
* Aid the SDO in meeting the fundraising goals of the Ministry, including developing/nurturing old and new donor relationships and the implementation of donor giving plans.
* Aid the SDO in developing and implementing a communications strategy that includes all external outreach, social media, and content creation.
* Under the guidance of the SDO, research, organize, and manage information on constituents and donors using the Ministry’s CRM in accordance with organization best practices on relationship management.
* Under the guidance of the SDO, prepare communications and advancement reports for the Chaplain/Director and advisory board.
* Under the guidance of the SDO, assist with event and project management (i.e., CCM annual celebration fundraiser & other events)
* Assist the SDO in drafting correspondence, acknowledgment letters, and proposals to major prospects, donors, and grants.
* Help maintain consistency in branding, voice, and content across CCM external communications.
* Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

* Strong attention to detail.
* Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
* Excellent time management, organizational, and event planning skills.
* Content creation and writing experience.
* Flexibility, proactivity, and good judgement.
* Ability to juggle multiple projects.

Education and Experience:

* Bachelor’s degree required.
* Communications and Social Media experience preferred.
* Event Planning experience is a plus.
* Fundraising and advancement experience is a plus.

Special Requirements:

* Practicing Roman Catholic in good standing who supports and upholds the mission of the Gospel and the Catholic Church by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church in keeping with the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
* Occasional work in the evening and weekends relating to events, board meetings, etc., will be required but typically scheduled well in advance.
