Job Description:
Catholic Campus Ministry at Southern Methodist University, a ministry of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Dallas, seeks a full-time Associate Director of Campus Ministry who works closely with the Director/Chaplain and another Associate Director to drive the development, implementation, and evaluation of all student ministry programs and activities, including the Servant Leadership Council, Women’s Ministry, Men’s Ministry, Freshmen Outreach Ministry, and more. This Associate director would also oversee the ministry’s facilities and be responsible for keeping the ministry compliant with the diocesan Safe Environment protocol.

Essential Job Functions:
Missional Work:
- Support and uphold the mission of the Gospel and the Catholic Church by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church in keeping with the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
- Work closely with the Director/Chaplain and another Associate Director to carry out the vision of the ministry.
- Support the ministry’s organizational health, internal affairs, and strategic planning.
- Collaborate in all student programs and associated initiatives, ensuring high quality, innovative, and relevant programming.
- Collaborate closely with FOCUS missionaries to foster unified vision, clear communication, and positive relationships between ministry staff, students, and FOCUS missionaries.
Administration:
- Collaborate with Director/Chaplain and another Associate Director in developing annual ministry program plan/calendar.
- Collaborate with Director/Chaplain and another Associate Director to develop student ministry program budget.
Safe Environment:
- Manage the safe environment program and the motor vehicle volunteer program at the campus ministry.
- Comply with all legal and diocesan requirements for reporting incidents of abuse.
Facility Operations:
- Ensure the Neuhoff Catholic Student Center and grounds are maintained in a manner that provides a healthy, secure, and attractive physical environment.
- Serve as campus ministry liaison for any construction projects, contractors, and custodial work.
- Oversee schedule of routine and preventive equipment and appliance maintenance.
Maintain and communicate crisis management/emergency procedures for building and staff.
Other:
- Help manage several ministry budgets, stewarding financial and physical resources associated with those budgets responsibly.
- Attend and engage students at the weekly Sunday Supper, Sunday Masses, and key ministry-wide events.
- Participate in regular staff meetings.
- Support the work of development, communication, and administration/operations for the good of the ministry.
- Actively participate in monthly campus minister meetings held by SMU’s Office of the Chaplain and Religious Life, as well as relevant events promoted by the Diocese of Dallas.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Sound knowledge, profession, and practice of evangelization, catechesis, doctrine, liturgy & sacraments, moral life, and prayer in keeping with the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
- Ability to work as a team player with Chaplain/Director, ministry staff, students, volunteers, and diocesan personnel.
- Ability to lead, empower, and supervise student leaders.
- Event planning and execution skills.
- Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to manage budgets and steward financial and physical resources.
- Ability to honor and maintain confidentiality.
- Experience with Catholic liturgical planning, music, and guidelines preferred.
Education and Experience:
- Practicing Roman Catholic in good standing.
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Theology from a Catholic institution of higher learning (Master’s Degree in Theology from a Catholic institution of higher learning preferred).
- 3-5 years in pastoral ministry preferred (experience in campus or young adult ministry preferred, along with experience in catechesis and faith formation).
- Event planning experience preferred.
Special Requirements & Expectations:
- Ability to work non-standard hours which include weekends (essentially including every Sunday) and some holidays.
