General Summary of the Position

The Section Leader supports All Saints Parish in its mission, in service of the Body of Christ.  This position, under the general supervision of the Director of Music, actively leads the choir volunteers in their respective choir sections in learning music and in developing their vocal technique, as well as contributing within the whole choral sound by singing at rehearsals, Catholic Liturgies, and concerts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Position

Maintain good vocal health
Learn all the provided music prior to rehearsals and come prepared to teach volunteer singers
Attend and sing at rehearsals, masses, and performances
Participate in the rotation of cantors after appropriate training
Be open to singing solos -according to repertoire requirements
Lead sectional rehearsals and educate volunteers on musical elements
Provide feedback in sectionals to volunteers on vocal technique, diction, tone, and other pedagogical matters
Secure suitable substitutes in the event of absence
Participate in the congregational prayers and congregational responses – appropriate to the choir
Help cultivate an atmosphere of positivity, warmth, and excellence
Help build and foster relationships with the choir membership
Actively engage with parish congregants in a kind, respectful, patient, and courteous manner.  Scout and Recruit talent in accordance with membership goals set by the Director                          Be present for high Holy Days, including Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, Easter Sunday, All Saints Day, All Souls Day, and other Holy Days of Obligation
Promote the music ministry efforts
Advise the Director on ideas
Participate in a yearly review with the Director prior to the end of the choral year
Not commit any act or do anything which might reasonably be considered: (i) to be immoral, deceptive, scandalous or obscene; or (ii) to injure, tarnish, damage or otherwise negatively affect the reputation and goodwill associated with the Catholic Church; or (iii) to run contrary to the organization’s stated values
Agree to and follow the Music Ministry policies and procedures
Agree to and follow the regulations and policies of the Diocesan Employee Manual

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

·       Ability to sing on an educated, professional level

·       Ability to teach and develop vocal abilities in others

·       Maintain a monophonic level of piano playing at minimum, enough to support a sectional              rehearsal

·       Familiarity of the Catholic Mass structure and how it varies according to Liturgical Seasons

·       Ability to sight sing music fluently

·       Have a charismatic love for people of all types and backgrounds

Must be able to lift and carry 15 pounds, stand or sit for long periods of time, climb ladders, push, pull, tolerate up to 82 decibels.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree – in applied music, or music education, or similar
Active Member, in good standing, of the Roman Catholic Church preferred; or RCIA candidate
Diocese of Dallas Safe Environment Clearance.
